Deer Hunters Are a Strange Species

Before there were grocery stores and fast food restaurants, people hunted for food. Some still do. In fact, according to the results of the 2001 U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service survey, there are estimated to be 10.9 million people who hunt big game.

Hunting seasons and limitations are occasionally regulated according to the current animal population number. This is, in part, to maintain a good balance between game, birds and smaller animals, and their available food.

Hunters do more than kill animals. They help the environment maintain the balance mentioned above. They also help wildlife conservation efforts with the license fees and taxes they pay. And, they aid law enforcement whenever possible by alerting them to suspicious activity they might happen to discover. For the past several years, many deer hunters across the country have donated their game to food banks and other groups as well. I do not agree with taking an animal’s life simply for the ’sport of it’. But I do agree with hunting to provide food.

DEER HUNTERS ARE A STRANGE SPECIES INDEED!

You never have to wake a guy up during deer season - they never sleep! Can’t blame them though, they’ve been planning since June about how they’re going to get that sixty-four point buck this time out.

You’ve seen the excitement build as the season came closer. He’s misplaced his car keys, forgotten to take out the trash, even forgotten to eat. But he knows exactly where his little orange cap is. He’s thrown his everyday clothes all over the place. But his thermals and orange camouglage jacket are neatly folded in a corner, ready to go. He’s even checked them a couple of times each day, and neatly refolded them to make sure they are ready.

A week before the hunting season opens, the average hunter will develop a continuously preoccupied twinkle in his eyes. Because of this, you can spot a guy with ‘buck fever’ anywhere. You can probably pick him out of a crowd of fifty thousand. He’ll be the one with the apprehensive, anticipating glow. I’ve been told that a deer is color blind - obviously they’re glow blind as well.

It’s not always just the thrill of the hunt that gets the hunter out of bed and going over his supplies’ checklist one more time before heading out into the great unknown. It’s also what they can put on the supper table. Some of the hardiest appetites around belong to hunters. When I was growing up, our table was laid out with everything from squirrel pot-pie to breaded ground hog. Barbecued deer roast is as good as any cattle being herded anywhere. And, I’ve heard that muskrat is a delicacy in some top rated city restaurants. Of course muskrats are trapped rather than hunted. But hunter/trapper.they’re basically the same breed.

A true deer hunter is more consistent and driven than the US Post Office. Neither rain, snow, wind, slush, mud, flu, or migraine will keep them from hitting the woods at daybreak and staying till near dark, or till they’ve gotten one - whichever comes first. If a deer is gotten the first day, the hunter can relax and live normally again. If not, there will be a few more obsession-filled days to get through.

The skill of hunting comes also with the privilege of talking about it. My dad once went hunting with a guy and swore he’d never step foot in the woods with him again. “Shot three times at a branch falling from a tree. Now you know a deer doesn’t climb a tree and jump!”

And they all have their stories. Like the guy who - during early Spring - chose a wooded area, built a primitive stand, and planned to return in the Fall to hunt. A couple of days before deer season was to begin, he went back - gun and practice target in hand - only to find several condominiums where the woods had once stood. The tree with his stand remained however. It had become a treehouse in someone’s back yard.

It is inevitable that talk of the upcoming hunt will somehow find it’s way into every conversation the hunter utters for weeks. It has to.it’s the only thing being thought about. I recall a few conversations with my hunter husband. Once I mentioned that I had gotten a lamp I’d been wanting for only twenty bucks. He began telling me about the two bucks that his friend, Hank, got two years in a row. “Close to 180 pounds.both of ‘em,” he informed me. Another time I wanted him to pick up some apples and oranges at the store. And he asked me if I thought he’d be wearing enough orange that year, or should he go buy something more. Then there was the time when I wanted a huge favor, but dreaded to ask hubby, so I addressed him with:
“Dear!” Of course, I should have known better, because immediately the twinkle in his eyes sparkled with even more shine and I knew it was no point in continuing a discussion until the word and the shine wore off.

So, if you have a hunter in your house who comes home near dark, on the last day, having been unsuccessful.get out some smelling saltz and revive him. But, of course he’s been used to a week of sniffing deer urine on his lapel, so the saltz may not affect him at all at first. However, do keep trying. And remember to prepare him a hot bath and drip eye drops in each of his bloodshot eyes. Then, after he’s ‘out like a light’ snoring, you may want to take a couple of whiffs of that smelling saltz yourself - when you realize that this whole thing will probably be repeating itself again in another twelve months or so.

Kennel floors can be bacteria resistant & skid proof.

By selling the units as condos, the developer moves much of the development cost
to the condo owners. By owning units that can be rented as hotel rooms, .Condo-hotel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The trend towards upscale kennels is making flooring paramount for good looks and healthful environments. Kennel epoxy flooring is not only seamless but can be Class III Laboratory qualified. Now used not only in veterinary operating rooms but also on kennel runways, divider walls and cages these mold and mildew resistant surfaces are easy to clean with hoses and squeegees. Bleach resistant epoxy flooring can take strong cleaners and heavy abrasion.

Epoxy coatings have been used successfully in swimming pools, laundries, warehouses, garages, and various types of shops for decades. Now they are being used increasingly in kennels with fine skid resistant textured surfaces that are still easy to mop and squeegee clean.

Kennel epoxy floors can be flooded, pressure washed and scrubbed back into service in minutes. Mold, bacteria, and contaminants can be rinsed off. The surfaces are impervious to penetration by liquid-born contaminants. Even diesel, gas, and oil will not penetrate them and can be washed or wiped up. Old technology floorings, including paint, carpeting, vinyl tile, linoleum, and wood, are subject to such severe contamination and damage if flood cleansing is used.

New designs in kennels offer beautiful flood-proof epoxy coated flooring from wall to wall, often including coated vertical surfaces to help further contain liquids. The beauty of kennel epoxy flooring can be enhanced and personalized by using colors. Colored chips, glitter, decorative stains, and artwork and decals can be laminated into these attractive floors. Kennel epoxy flooring is a solid choice when building or remodeling kennel spaces.

Saving Money on Your Condominium Purchase

There are many ways that buyers find to save money on their condominium purchases here in Center City Philadelphia. One can save by making offers of many properties, doing cosmetic work themselves, or being one of the first OR last people to purchase inside a condominium building. One technique used by some buyers here in town is what we here at Center City Condos term “shop a lot, and insult many.” What some buyers will do is that they’re flexible in their need for a specific condominium unit, and they will make many offers, one at a time, they’ll lowball, and if it’s not accepted, they’ll yank and lowball another condo unit, yank and lowball another condo unit. And they’ll continue to do that until they get a deal. These days we don’t come across many buyers who use this technique, but we have in the past. The advantage of this is that you may have the ability to get a very good price, but the disadvantage is you may not be able to get everything you want in the specific unit. Since you’re opening your needs, the one that you may end up getting may not be your first choice, but at least you may have gotten a good price.
The second way to save money on a condominium is to buy the ugliest condominium you can find; the one with the purple shag carpet and the pink and orange walls. Preferably, the unit will be exceptionally dirty and hasn’t been cleaned in fifteen years - and if you’re lucky, it’ll smell! Because those things are easily curable, but they’re also things that few buyers want. It would seem that very few people can remove the “emotion” out of their condominium purchase. If you have the ability to do that, it’s almost as if the world is your oyster. Generally speaking, these units have a tendency to sit on the market for a long time and as they sit on the market, the price drops, and the price drops, and the price drops. A fair number of buyers are NOT price motivated; if you ARE price motivated and can forego the emotion associated with a condominium purchase and buy the least attractive thing that you can find that needs possibly painting, and the floor sanded, and new appliances, and cosmetic help, you may be in for a very good purchase.
Lastly, one technique that can be used is timing -I have always said that the first buyer into a condo building, and the last buyer into a condo building are sometimes the luckiest buyers. Because at the onset of a release of condominiums, generally speaking, the developer needs sales to get his financing. So if you’re one of the first people into that deal, you may get the introductory construction pricing. Additionally, the developer is looking for buyers to confirm what they originally had thought when they bought the building, the fact that it’s going to be desirable - sellers love the first initial sales! Conversely, if you’re one of the last one or two people to get into the building, generally by the time this developer is all the way at the end of the project, they want OUT. So you may get a very good deal by buying the unit that hasn’t been purchased yet at a very good price with a lot of dealer incentives - a lot of upgrades, maybe the seller is providing a lower price or other financial incentives.
There are ways to save money on your new condominium purchase here in Center City Philadelphia. Some techniques are more popular and some are more successful than others. We suggest that you choose your strategy wisely and buy according to your preset goals.

One dead as plane slams into luxury BC condo - Globe and Mail

Have you ever felt discriminated against when searching for housing? Don?t worry, you?re not alone. While hundreds of thousands of people are discriminated against annually, only 9,254 housing discrimination complaints were filed according to a 2005 annual report sent to Congress.

On your side is the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (abbreviated to HUD). Your weapon is the Fair Housing Act (FHA), which was enacted by Congress back in 1968. In a nutshell, what this act does is prevent direct providers of housing (e.g landlords, real estate companies, banks, etc.) from discriminating due to race, religion, sex, origin, family status, or disability.

To clarify, race discrimination covers more than just your typical ?Sorry, I don?t rent to black/yellow/white/red/green people? remarks. Many times, homeseekers don?t know that they?ve been discriminated against. This happens when housing providers hide their discrimination by giving fake information about availability of housing. The Department of Justice actually has a special program, the Fair Housing Testing Program, which goes to uncover this kind of hidden discrimination.

Besides the normal interpretation of religion-based discrimination, housing providers can not create zoning ordinances to limit usage of private homes as places of worship. Also, don?t get too hyped up if you think you have a case against the local catholics-only rental unit; religious organizations are allowed to reserve housing for people of the same religion.

The most popular filings to the HUD are related to disability discrimination. According to the FHA, ?persons with a disability? refers to people with ?a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more of such person?s major life activities.? This means that homeowners are not allowed to discriminate based on afflictions such as HIV infection, mental retardation, alcoholism, and mobility impairment. The FHA also does not cover users of illegal controlled substances, sex offenders, and juvenile offenders.

These laws against discriminatory practices also carry over to mortgage loans and home improvement loans; in these cases, you are protected under both the FHA and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act.

So what happens when you experience this discrimination? The FHA has complete provisions for handling this type of event. If you have been a victim of an illegal housing practice, you are allowed to either file a complaint with the HUD or file a lawsuit with the federal or state court. When you file a complaint with the HUD, the Department of Justice will get involved and launch suits on behalf of those who filed complaints.

As an example, a young man named Michael Scialabba in Chicago was involved in an automobile accident which left him with a traumatic brain injury. The condominium association and his property manager were accused of not making any reasonable attempt to accommodate Michael?s injury. The result: Michael won a $160,000 settlement against the Condominium association due to the federal Fair Housing Act.

It?s nice to know sometimes that you have a few government organizations watching out for your fair treatment. Another little known fact is that if a housing provider uses force or threatens to use force to deny you your fair housing rights, the Department of Justice can launch the granddaddy of all suits: criminal proceedings.

Hopefully now you have a better grasp of what the HUD and FHA can offer you in terms of homeseeker empowerment. Knowing your rights will give you the upper hand when you look for housing; don?t let the housing providers take advantage of you.

Serial Killers

Serial Killers

 by: Sam Vaknin

Countess Erszebet Bathory was a breathtakingly beautiful, unusually well-educated woman, married to a descendant of Vlad Dracula of Bram Stoker fame. In 1611, she was tried - though, being a noblewoman, not convicted - in Hungary for slaughtering 612 young girls. The true figure may have been 40-100, though the Countess recorded in her diary more than 610 girls and 50 bodies were found in her estate when it was raided.

The Countess was notorious as an inhuman sadist long before her hygienic fixation. She once ordered the mouth of a talkative servant sewn. It is rumoured that in her childhood she witnessed a gypsy being sewn into a horse’s stomach and left to die.

The girls were not killed outright. They were kept in a dungeon and repeatedly pierced, prodded, pricked, and cut. The Countess may have bitten chunks of flesh off their bodies while alive. She is said to have bathed and showered in their blood in the mistaken belief that she could thus slow down the aging process.

Her servants were executed, their bodies burnt and their ashes scattered. Being royalty, she was merely confined to her bedroom until she died in 1614. For a hundred years after her death, by royal decree, mentioning her name in Hungary was a crime.

Cases like Barothy’s give the lie to the assumption that serial killers are a modern - or even post-modern - phenomenon, a cultural-societal construct, a by-product of urban alienation, Althusserian interpellation, and media glamorization. Serial killers are, indeed, largely made, not born. But they are spawned by every culture and society, molded by the idiosyncrasies of every period as well as by their personal circumstances and genetic makeup.

Still, every crop of serial killers mirrors and reifies the pathologies of the milieu, the depravity of the Zeitgeist, and the malignancies of the Leitkultur. The choice of weapons, the identity and range of the victims, the methodology of murder, the disposal of the bodies, the geography, the sexual perversions and paraphilias - are all informed and inspired by the slayer’s environment, upbringing, community, socialization, education, peer group, sexual orientation, religious convictions, and personal narrative. Movies like “Born Killers”, “Man Bites Dog”, “Copycat”, and the Hannibal Lecter series captured this truth.

Serial killers are the quiddity and quintessence of malignant narcissism.

Yet, to some degree, we all are narcissists. Primary narcissism is a universal and inescapable developmental phase. Narcissistic traits are common and often culturally condoned. To this extent, serial killers are merely our reflection through a glass darkly.

In their book “Personality Disorders in Modern Life”, Theodore Millon and Roger Davis attribute pathological narcissism to “a society that stresses individualism and self-gratification at the expense of community . In an individualistic culture, the narcissist is ‘God’s gift to the world’. In a collectivist society, the narcissist is ‘God’s gift to the collective’”.

Lasch described the narcissistic landscape thus (in “The Culture of Narcissism: American Life in an age of Diminishing Expectations”, 1979):

“The new narcissist is haunted not by guilt but by anxiety. He seeks not to inflict his own certainties on others but to find a meaning in life. Liberated from the superstitions of the past, he doubts even the reality of his own existence . His sexual attitudes are permissive rather than puritanical, even though his emancipation from ancient taboos brings him no sexual peace.

Fiercely competitive in his demand for approval and acclaim, he distrusts competition because he associates it unconsciously with an unbridled urge to destroy . He (harbours) deeply antisocial impulses. He praises respect for rules and regulations in the secret belief that they do not apply to himself. Acquisitive in the sense that his cravings have no limits, he . demands immediate gratification and lives in a state of restless, perpetually unsatisfied desire.”

The narcissist’s pronounced lack of empathy, off-handed exploitativeness, grandiose fantasies and uncompromising sense of entitlement make him treat all people as though they were objects (he “objectifies” people). The narcissist regards others as either useful conduits for and sources of narcissistic supply (attention, adulation, etc.) - or as extensions of himself.

Similarly, serial killers often mutilate their victims and abscond with trophies - usually, body parts. Some of them have been known to eat the organs they have ripped - an act of merging with the dead and assimilating them through digestion. They treat their victims as some children do their rag dolls.

Killing the victim - often capturing him or her on film before the murder - is a form of exerting unmitigated, absolute, and irreversible control over it. The serial killer aspires to “freeze time” in the still perfection that he has choreographed. The victim is motionless and defenseless. The killer attains long sought “object permanence”. The victim is unlikely to run on the serial assassin, or vanish as earlier objects in the killer’s life (e.g., his parents) have done.

In malignant narcissism, the true self of the narcissist is replaced by a false construct, imbued with omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence. The narcissist’s thinking is magical and infantile. He feels immune to the consequences of his own actions. Yet, this very source of apparently superhuman fortitude is also the narcissist’s Achilles heel.

The narcissist’s personality is chaotic. His defense mechanisms are primitive. The whole edifice is precariously balanced on pillars of denial, splitting, projection, rationalization, and projective identification. Narcissistic injuries - life crises, such as abandonment, divorce, financial difficulties, incarceration, public opprobrium - can bring the whole thing tumbling down. The narcissist cannot afford to be rejected, spurned, insulted, hurt, resisted, criticized, or disagreed with.

Likewise, the serial killer is trying desperately to avoid a painful relationship with his object of desire. He is terrified of being abandoned or humiliated, exposed for what he is and then discarded. Many killers often have sex - the ultimate form of intimacy - with the corpses of their victims. Objectification and mutilation allow for unchallenged possession.

Devoid of the ability to empathize, permeated by haughty feelings of superiority and uniqueness, the narcissist cannot put himself in someone else’s shoes, or even imagine what it means. The very experience of being human is alien to the narcissist whose invented False Self is always to the fore, cutting him off from the rich panoply of human emotions.

Thus, the narcissist believes that all people are narcissists. Many serial killers believe that killing is the way of the world. Everyone would kill if they could or were given the chance to do so. Such killers are convinced that they are more honest and open about their desires and, thus, morally superior. They hold others in contempt for being conforming hypocrites, cowed into submission by an overweening establishment or society.

The narcissist seeks to adapt society in general - and meaningful others in particular - to his needs. He regards himself as the epitome of perfection, a yardstick against which he measures everyone, a benchmark of excellence to be emulated. He acts the guru, the sage, the “psychotherapist”, the “expert”, the objective observer of human affairs. He diagnoses the “faults” and “pathologies” of people around him and “helps” them “improve”, “change”, “evolve”, and “succeed” - i.e., conform to the narcissist’s vision and wishes.

Serial killers also “improve” their victims - slain, intimate objects - by “purifying” them, removing “imperfections”, depersonalizing and dehumanizing them. This type of killer saves its victims from degeneration and degradation, from evil and from sin, in short: from a fate worse than death.

The killer’s megalomania manifests at this stage. He claims to possess, or have access to, higher knowledge and morality. The killer is a special being and the victim is “chosen” and should be grateful for it. The killer often finds the victim’s ingratitude irritating, though sadly predictable.

In his seminal work, “Aberrations of Sexual Life” (originally: “Psychopathia Sexualis”), quoted in the book “Jack the Ripper” by Donald Rumbelow, Kraft-Ebbing offers this observation:

“The perverse urge in murders for pleasure does not solely aim at causing the victim pain and - most acute injury of all - death, but that the real meaning of the action consists in, to a certain extent, imitating, though perverted into a monstrous and ghastly form, the act of defloration. It is for this reason that an essential component . is the employment of a sharp cutting weapon; the victim has to be pierced, slit, even chopped up . The chief wounds are inflicted in the stomach region and, in many cases, the fatal cuts run from the vagina into the abdomen. In boys an artificial vagina is even made . One can connect a fetishistic element too with this process of hacking . inasmuch as parts of the body are removed and . made into a collection.”

Yet, the sexuality of the serial, psychopathic, killer is self-directed. His victims are props, extensions, aides, objects, and symbols. He interacts with them ritually and, either before or after the act, transforms his diseased inner dialog into a self-consistent extraneous catechism. The narcissist is equally auto-erotic. In the sexual act, he merely masturbates with other - living - people’s bodies.

The narcissist’s life is a giant repetition complex. In a doomed attempt to resolve early conflicts with significant others, the narcissist resorts to a restricted repertoire of coping strategies, defense mechanisms, and behaviors. He seeks to recreate his past in each and every new relationship and interaction. Inevitably, the narcissist is invariably confronted with the same outcomes. This recurrence only reinforces the narcissist’s rigid reactive patterns and deep-set beliefs. It is a vicious, intractable, cycle.

Correspondingly, in some cases of serial killers, the murder ritual seemed to have recreated earlier conflicts with meaningful objects, such as parents, authority figures, or peers. The outcome of the replay is different to the original, though. This time, the killer dominates the situation.

The killings allow him to inflict abuse and trauma on others rather than be abused and traumatized. He outwits and taunts figures of authority - the police, for instance. As far as the killer is concerned, he is merely “getting back” at society for what it did to him. It is a form of poetic justice, a balancing of the books, and, therefore, a “good” thing. The murder is cathartic and allows the killer to release hitherto repressed and pathologically transformed aggression - in the form of hate, rage, and envy.

But repeated acts of escalating gore fail to alleviate the killer’s overwhelming anxiety and depression. He seeks to vindicate his negative introjects and sadistic superego by being caught and punished. The serial killer tightens the proverbial noose around his neck by interacting with law enforcement agencies and the media and thus providing them with clues as to his identity and whereabouts. When apprehended, most serial assassins experience a great sense of relief.

Serial killers are not the only objectifiers - people who treat others as objects. To some extent, leaders of all sorts - political, military, or corporate - do the same. In a range of demanding professions - surgeons, medical doctors, judges, law enforcement agents - objectification efficiently fends off attendant horror and anxiety.

Yet, serial killers are different. They represent a dual failure - of their own development as full-fledged, productive individuals - and of the culture and society they grow in. In a pathologically narcissistic civilization - social anomies proliferate. Such societies breed malignant objectifiers - people devoid of empathy - also known as “narcissists”.

Going through life?s sunset presents many daunting challenges and consequences. You will have to face financial constraints and inflexibility due to limited source of income, fixed social security benefits, facing the high cost of health care and preparing all those legal documents through power of attorney in cases when you can no longer carry out duties normally attributed to a healthy person.

1. Types of Senior Housing

One of the things that concern most people reaching old age is the type of housing they need to choose which will perfectly match their needs depending on their level of activity and preference. There are housing for active individuals and couples, and housing for individuals or couples who prefer living within a usual community.

2. Independent Living

Some are into independent living through apartment and some choose to stay on their own house under the supervision or care of someone, as in caregivers or other geriatric care managers. Some who do not have a place to stay are left in nursing homes and cared for by individuals working for a state government and others who are left in a nursing home managed by a non-profit organization. Special cases are given for individuals afflicted with Alzheimer?s disease and people with terminal illness.

3. Care Programs

Others choose to be in a continuing care program where a complete medical program and activity are performed all throughout old age. This is mostly a supervised housing program where a lifelong nursing and medical care are provided for each individual.

4. What Program Is Best For You?

Your preference will most likely matter in senior housing decisions you?ll have to make. If you have a couple entering such stage, your decision will be a bit tough for you have to consider other party?s decision. Your family may take part of the decision process as well and provide you more options to where you can spend the rest of your life under the care of a health care individuals or put you on a continuing care program to supervise your safety along this period. Agencies are available in the management of availing for senior housing facility. A brief consultation with senior housing representatives will give you a wealth of information you can use in your decision process.

5. Factors To Consider

Lifestyle

The choice of an appropriate housing program depends on your taste of environment, be it in a rural area or in a more advanced societies.

While statistics shows that majority of retirees still go for areas with less stress and outside the city?s busy life, a growing number of individuals are somewhat extending their participation in the society and choose to mingle with the very changing metropolitan world.

Level of Activity

Couples or Individuals who wants to be on a more relax environment go to rural areas free of hassles and stress of the modern world, while a considerable number of individuals are becoming more and more open into associating themselves to the busy metropolitan society. Apartment types offer this kind of convenience for active individuals and couples. Condominiums, conventional family homes and mobile homes are some of the most common apartment types.

People living in this community are more exposed to the many benefits of the government?s retirement program. Senior communities allow them to take advantage of facilities related to fitness, and other amenities not present in a more monotonous housing programs. Citizens of this type are exposed to these pleasantries such as spa, pools and tennis and golf courts. They are also provided with an accessible system of transportation and are a number one participant in a number of social activities. Many individuals are noted for they play an active part in a certain social movement as in the case of non-governmental organizations.

Pre-existing Medical Conditions

It is but usual for elders to suffer a number of age-related illnesses. What?s worse is, a number of diseases common among elders is the ever-popular Alzheimer?s Syndromes (Alzheimer?s Care Program). Some even are incapable of carrying out normal activities like cooking, bathing, and cleaning so they are kept in an Assisted Homecare Program. In this type of care giving facility nursing specialists provide basic services such as the above activities which they cannot perform. Additionally, medical services are also administered.

Terminally ill patients (Hospice care system) are also given special attention using unique treatments; mitigating pain characteristic of the disease?s symptoms. Others who can afford the services of a professional caregiver may take the Home Care Service Program. This allows ailing seniors get the service of a caretaker at the comfort of their own home. This option is the least program taken advantage of today.

Cho Seung-Hui, The Making of a Murderer - 15 Contributory Clues

Keep your decorating light, airy to spruce up large condo - Toronto Star

Keep your decorating light, airy to spruce up large condo
Toronto Star, Canada - Oct 20, 2007
"Because this condo has lots of light, I would keep it light and airy when decorating. I would go with a classic look, with a modern edge," says Akerman, .

Cho Seung-Hui was the 23 year-old Virginia Tech student who killed 32 students and took his own life afterward on the morning of April 16, 2007.

What clues can we see throughout Cho Seung-Hui’s time at Virginia Tech (VT) that would signal and lead up to the making of a murderer?

1. He was an isolated recluse and silent loner.
Cho, a South Korean native, was in the U.S. as a resident alien with a residence established in Centerville, Va. Cho was living on campus in Harper Residence Hall. Yet his roommates say he was very quiet and kept to himself. The extent of his social revolved around instant messenger and time spent on face book.

2. Strange behavior alienating him socially.
Cho was said to often take pictures of people without permission. Perhaps Cho was collecting pictures to send to friends back in South Korea to project the social life he never had. Though many fellow students at Virginia Tech were disturbed by Cho’s picture takings, they were seemingly tolerant to a degree of his eccentric and weird behavior. Nevertheless Cho’s odd behavior served to ostracize and distance him socially from his peers. Many who crossed paths with Cho at VT thought of him as the strangest, spookiest person they?d ever encountered.

3. He was jealous and envious.
Cho left an angry note in his dorm room, which a law enforcement source described as a typed, eight-page rant against ?rich kids? and women. ?You caused me to do this,? the official quoted the note as saying.

Cho was jealous and envious of the rich kids money and guys who had the girls he dreamed of having. The Bible says, “Jealousy is the rage of a man” (Proverbs 6:34). That is to say jealousy precedes anger and rage. As for envy, it is “rottenness of the bones” (14:30).

4. Socially and sexually frustrated.
Leaving home to live at the University can be a real test for one’s manhood as Cho discovered. He was thrust into a new living environment, where he had to adapt and make friends. Not being the social type, the insecure Cho withdrew and isolated himself.

With the click of the internet, Cho was readily able to access all the pictures of the girls he inwardly fantasized about. This further intensified his own personal and sexual frustration as a man. What futile attempts he did make to befriend the opposite sex, Cho was seemingly rejected as there apparently was not a mutual interest.

Cho’s last hours apparently began with the killings of freshman veterinary student Emily Hilscher, 19, and senior Ryan “Stack” Clark, a resident advisor, at about 7:15 a.m. in the West Ambler Johnston residence hall.

Hilscher’s connection to Cho is not clear. The police who responded to 911 calls described the incident as a “domestic dispute,” implying that she and the gunman had some sort of relationship.

Another twist to this puzzling young man is his darkly comic one-act play “Richard McBeef,” which mentions a father’s pedophilia.

5. Uncommunicative, Cho was an emotional time bomb eroding from within.
David Schott, who graduated from Westfield High School in Chantilly, Va., with Cho in 2003, told the Boston Herald in an e-mail that Cho ?never spoke a word.? Bottling up all of his pain and feelings within, Cho never confided in anyone as to what he was struggling with.

Unlike women who validate and easily articulate their feelings to one another, Cho (like many men) probably lived in denial for some time and just kept pushing his pain down.

6. Cho was likely the source of classmate jokes.
Kids can be cruel. It begins in elementary school and goes on through college. Kids don’t hold back any punches. The joke about unresponsive Cho was he was “The question mark kid.”

Cho sat in the back of the classroom, wearing a hat and seldom participating. In a small department, Cho distinguished himself for being anonymous.

A photo from the 2002 yearbook, when Cho was a junior, shows an unsmiling, bespectacled boy wearing a plaid flannel shirt over a light-colored T-shirt. He did not have a yearbook photo his senior year.

7. Cho played violent video games which desensitized him to violence.
Dr. Phil went so far according to Fox News as to have entirely blamed the video games. I wouldn’t go that far, but I will say that making sport of violence does tremendously desensitize people to acting in such a way. This was definitely another small component that compounded and contributed to the making of a murderer.

8. Full of shame and self-hatred.
It was said that Cho never made eye contact with anyone in high-school, this being a sure sign of low self-esteem and shame. Enduring such self-defeating tendencies for years enabled Cho to develop a strong sense of self-hatred.

Students said Cho was known for little more than his silent demeanor. They said he refused to introduce himself to his creative writing class last year. As classmates went around the room saying their names, he remained silent. On the sign-in sheet where everyone else had written their names, Cho had written a question mark. ?Is your name, ?Question mark? ? classmate Julie Poole recalled the professor asking. The young man offered little response.

Cho’s two roommates told CNN in an exclusive interview that he had mentioned committing suicide to them after a disheartening incident when he had pursued a “friend” (no doubt a young lady) and the results were not favorable to his liking.

9. Cho expressed anger in his writings.
Cho’s deep sense of self-hatred manifested in his creative writing, which he as an English major wrote. It was said by his English teacher that Cho’s angry writings were a huge reason for concern. She urged him to get psychological counseling and even reported his problem to the University.

MacFarlane, a former play writing classmate of Cho?s, now an employee of AOL, wrote on a news blog that ?When we read Cho?s plays, it was like something out of a nightmare.?

One play, titled ?Richard McBeef,? depicts an angry adolescent who believes his stepfather murdered his biological father. It is laced with references to sexual abuse. In it, a chain saw-wielding mom has a temper that flairs on a whim.

Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” This is hard to do if you don’t first love yourself. The reverse is true in that we love our neighbor as we love ourselves. Since Cho inwardly hated and loathed himself, it wasn’t long before he would feel the same way about the professors and students around him.

10. Cho was using anti-depressants.
It was said that Cho was using anti-depressant medication to help him through the emotional lows he was experiencing. Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN chief medical correspondent, said the minimal and short-lived stimulation one would get from anti-depressants might be just enough to enable them to act on their anger.

As a minister I know well that medicating a person never deals with the underlying issue deeper within at the root of the problem. Despite using medication, Cho was becoming increasingly violent and erratic.

11. Cho gave people a bad vibe instinctively.
“We always joked we were just waiting for him to do something, waiting to hear about something he did,” said another classmate, Stephanie Derry. “But when I got the call it was Cho who had done this, I started crying, bawling.”

There certainly is something to be said about a woman’s intuition. Many seemed to have a sick gut feeling and premonition about Cho long before the blood bath broke out. Ian MacFarlane?s first thought when he heard of the massacre at his alma mater was for his friends? safety. His second was, ?I bet it was Seung Cho.?

There were some troubling signs with Cho: students in his writing classes say he often wrote violent scenes they describe as “twisted.” He wrote two screenplays dealing with death and revenge ? two things that seem to have played out Monday on the Virginia Tech campus.

12. Family and outside pressure may have played a role.
I hate to generalize and stereotype. However as one who has traveled to over 50 countries of the world, I’ve got a pretty good sense of other cultures and their work ethic. This is merely speculative, but it may have some validity.

The shooting spree took place at Norris Hall, which houses the bulk of Virginia Tech’s famed engineering courses. Cho killed a few reputable professors from the engineering department, 30 people total at the engineering building though he was an English major.

Perhaps Cho’s father wanted him to study engineering at University, as many Asian fathers encourage their sons in such a line of employment. It was not said whether or not Cho was possibly denied admittance into the engineering program when he initially applied at attend VT. Cho’s English major certainly didn’t afford him a lot of interaction with other Asians at the University, who might have been more successful relating to him.

13. Cho sought to buy a gun.
Cho, a loner in life, apparently wanted to be anonymous in death. Sources say he carried no identification on him during his killing spree. And the serial numbers on his two handguns had been erased.

He was carrying a 9-millimeter Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol, which he had legally bought five weeks earlier at a gun shop in nearby Roanoke, as well as a 22-caliber Walther P22 semi-automatic pistol and several clips of ammunition.

The gun store owner told his story on TV and was very grieved for selling the gun to what he thought to be a “clean-cut,” respectable young man.

14. Cho lacked solid values and struggled making sense of his faith.
Unlike many who feel powerless and turn to God, Cho seems to have been troubled about religion and American values he witnessed on campus.

A rambling note left in Cho’s dorm room reportedly railed for several pages against “rich kids” and “debauchery” and “deceitful charlatans” on campus. He seemed to identify with Jesus Christ to whom he likened his actions. Apparently Cho never learned that Jesus is a life-giver not a life-taker. Jesus forgave those who nailed Him to the cross and spit in His face saying, “Father forgive them for they don’t know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). Cho had no such forgiveness for those he slaughtered.

Sadly Cho never connected to his great Christian heritage in South Korea, where some of the largest and most dynamic churches flourish.

15. Demonic influences contributed to this mass murder.

It sounded like a demon spirit was speaking through Cho on his videos as he said, “my children, my brothers and sisters” which had no factual basis as Cho was an unmarried man without kids. It was like Satan himself was talking to through Cho, a child of the devil (Acts 13:10).

The strange inscription on one of Cho’s arms ? the words “ISMAIL AX” in red ink reference the Biblical sacrifice of Abraham, in which God commands the patriarch to sacrifice his own son. Abraham begins to comply, but God intervenes at the last moment to save the boy.

Another obscure interpretation may be to a passage in the Koran referring to Abraham’s destruction of pagan idols. No matter how you look at it, ?the devil comes to kill, steal, and destroy? (John 10:10). As Satan filled the heart of Judas who was a murderer from the beginning, Cho equally was misdirected by the father of lies. Spiritually, Cho was born of his father the devil and his works of destruction he carried out to his own demise (John 8:44).

My deepest sympathy and sincere Condolences to Cho’s beloved family in Virginia. I hurt and grieve with you over the loss of your son.

Truly hurting people, hurt people.

I pray our loving and most merciful heavenly Father will comfort you through this difficult time. As millions of South Koreans know, Christ Jesus can save to the uttermost. Once we have humbled our hearts and repented, we can immediately find forgiveness and refuge beneath His cleansing blood. Once you are beneath the blood of Jesus, you can live above the shame.

Nothing can separate you from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 8). Lift up your eyes to heaven where your help comes from. God is a very present help in our time of trouble (Psalm 46:1).

9 Product Naming Tips

Real Estate Investments and Condominium Buying - CondominiumCentral knows
pre-construction condos and luxury Real Estate Investments around the world.Condos, Real Estate, and Condo Hotels - Pre-construction Luxury .

Product naming is a key aspect of branding. The name you ultimately choose will reflect who you are, your company’s personality and vision. But more importantly, it must unforgettably embody the promise of your product’s main benefit to your potential customers. It can dovetail generically with your competition, but ideally, it should stand out from the crowd. Where to begin? Here are some basic guidelines.

If the field’s too crowded, be unique

MSN Search, Netscape Search, AOL Search, they all stayed in the same category, so you could play it safe and go with Stupendous Search or Super-Duper Search. This works for a time, but as soon as the field gets too crowded, you’ll be lost in the mush of sameness with ever diminishing name recognition. If you’re in it for the long haul, better to break away from the crowd with a name like Google, Yahoo, or even Dogpile (though I’m not a fan of going into the scat category just to be unique). Even Kinkos–the founder’s nickname (he had kinky red hair in school)–is different enough to be memorable.

Avoid tongue twisters

There’s a little part in all of us that hates to be embarrassed. When we ask for a product or talk about it with friends, we want to sound literate and not fumble over pronunciations. So be kind to your potential customers and avoid tongue twisters, or any name that’s unusually long or foreign sounding. If you can’t find a single-word name, don’t go over two or three syllables.

Alliteration can help with longer names

Okay, so the president of the company likes all the longer names on your list. You can make them more memorable and/or easier to pronounce by using alliteration. Consider Circuit City (originally, the incredibly bland, monosyllabic, Wards). Or Downtown Disney, Or the most famous brand in the world, Coca Cola. All four syllables, yet they roll off the tongue with surprising ease.

Avoid abbreviations

Abbreviations lack personality and communicate very little in terms of benefit or brand character. Sure, IBM, MCI and ABC have big recognition and identity, but they also spent years and millions in virtually all media to promote their image–using images of people and situations that were warm and fuzzy. Even billionaire Bill Gates chose Microsoft over MS (which has some undesirable connotations).

Convey an implied benefit

If you don’t have a lot of media dollars to spend on name recognition, try for a name that conveys a benefit or describes content. Snapple started out with a name that combined two of its original flavors: Spice N Apple. Silk–the soy-based milk brand–combines soy and milk. Benefit-oriented names include EasyOff oven cleaner, Miracle-Grow plant food, and Hearthwarmer (a fireplace insert).

Lost in Translation.or worse!

Most of us have heard the story of Chevrolet introducing their “Nova” in Spanish-speaking countries. The car tanked because ‘nova’ means “doesn’t go.” Fiat found they had to rename their “uno” in Finland, since “Uno” means garbage in Finnish. Canadian products require labeling in both English and French, which is why on some cookie boxes, the English phrase “without preservatives” has been unintentionally translated into the French “sans preservatives,” which means “without Condoms.” ‘Nuff said.

Shun fads

The shelf life of a faddish name is short and sweet. It rises to the stratosphere of recognition then nosedives into obscurity faster than you can say, “radical,” “tubular” or “outta sight.” Another problem with fads is they’re often limited to one demographic or clique. In a market as broad and diverse as the U.S., it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Protect your image

If you’re like most companies, you worked hard and spent some real money creating the image of your company. So it only makes sense to protect your investment with a product name that’s consistent with your existing brands and image. Rolls Royce had to pull the name of its newest addition to the Silver Cloud line, which they tentatively named the “Silver Mist,” since in German, “mist” means manure. So build on what you have. A good example: Google’s entry into online shopping with Froogle. Incidentally, if you’re wondering where “Google” came from, it’s a variation on the math term googol, a huge number with endless zeros.

Don’t forget legal

Once you’ve settled on a few ideal prospective names, hire a good lawyer to make sure they’re not already being used or are confusingly similar to someone else’s in your industry.

Hopefully, this brief overview will help guide you through the subtleties of product naming. Remember, try to be unique and benefit oriented without being confusing or offensive. Avoid fads, abbreviations and tongue twisters. And, by all means, protect your image.
